England and France-[10] Not Okayu but Porridge

"Porridge" is a dish made by boiling oats in milk. It looks like Japanese Okayu (お粥), but has far different taste from Okayu. It is not salty but sweet. My friend didn't know what "porridge" is, but she ordered it as breakfast in a cafe. She might think she would enjoy it as well as a woman next to us.

This was my first and ONLY "porridge" experience :-(  Not yummy...
Berry sauce on the top of the porridge tasted good. It was almost like strawberry jam (イチゴジャム).

"Porridge" is an English term that has no counterpart in Japanese. This kind of gap or lack usually occurs in translating languages. It is why each language is based on each culture, in other words, one language has one fixed term (ex. porridge) because it is necessary for daily life, but the other language doesn't have one term which is unnecessary and unused.
Translating language is also called "localization." Localization is not replacing words but bridging a communication gap and making people's expressions more suitable for each culture. This is only my opinion.
